JPMorgan strategist Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou warned that the damage may permanently alter how hedge funds engage with the technology sector. Stricter risk management frameworks and reduced prime broker allocations could structurally limit hedge funds' capacity to hold volatile tech stocks.
"If this assessment proves correct and the capacity of hedge funds to hold tech exposures is structurally reduced, the tech trade would become over the longer-term even more dependent on retail investors," Panigirtzoglou wrote, adding it would be "more susceptible to the swings emanating from leveraged exchange traded funds, retail option buying and retail margin accounts."finance.biggo+1
