DP World grows truck fleet 40% to bypass Strait of Hormuz

  • DP World plans to expand its truck fleet by 40% and add new land routes linking Europe, the U.S. and Asia to the Persian Gulf, COO Stephen Whittingham told Bloomberg.
  • Since March, the company has moved up to 500,000 TEUs overland across the GCC via bonded routes through Oman to Jeddah, adding 700 trucks generating 3,000 daily movements.
  • DP World signed a 50-year deal in July to build two deep-water terminals in Fujairah, outside the strait, as part of the UAE's "zero Hormuz dependency" strategy.
