The total solar eclipse will trace a path of totality across eastern Greenland, western Iceland, and Spain, while observers across much of Western Europe and parts of North America will see a partial eclipse with up to 90 percent solar coverage. IFLScience reviewed NASA's catalog of 5,000 years of solar eclipse data — covering 3,173 total solar eclipses from 1999 BCE to 3000 CE — and cross-referenced them with the peaks of five major meteor showers. Their analysis found no prior instance of a total solar eclipse coinciding with the peak of a major meteor shower since consistent measurements began in the 1950s.iflscience
"The last total Solar eclipse for the UK was 1999, and the next total eclipse will be 2090," said Jess Lee, an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. "In this partial eclipse, around 90 percent of the Sun will be covered, which is exciting because the next eclipse of a similar magnitude for us won't be until 2081".iflscience
The Washington Post reported that the eclipse's brief artificial nightfall may make it dark enough to spot meteors during totality itself. While the sky won't turn fully dark, the Perseids are known for producing fireballs brighter than Venus — and these could be visible to observers in the path of totality.washingtonpost
Under ideal conditions, as many as 50 to 100 meteors per hour may be visible after dark, according to NASA. The new moon phase means no moonlight will wash out fainter meteors, creating what astronomers describe as optimal viewing conditions.independent

The best meteor viewing will come between midnight and dawn on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, when the constellation Perseus climbs high in the northern sky. No special equipment is needed — just dark skies and patience.
For the eclipse, viewers in the UK can expect first contact between 6:08 p.m. and 6:18 p.m. local time, with maximum coverage around 7:05 to 7:15 p.m. Eclipse glasses are essential for safe viewing of the partial phases.independent
