bloomberg+1businesstimes+1businesstimesAlphabet Inc. has begun marketing a sweeping 10-part U.S. investment-grade bond offering on Thursday, testing investor demand just weeks after its raised capital-expenditure forecast helped trigger a broader selloff in AI-related debt.
The Google and YouTube parent is offering notes with maturities ranging from two to 40 years, according to Bloomberg, with initial price talk for the longest-tenored 40-year tranche at a premium of about 1.55 percentage points above U.S. Treasuries. The SEC-registered, senior unsecured notes are expected to carry Aa2/AA+ ratings, with a syndicate including Bank of America , Citigroup , Goldman Sachs The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. , JPMorgan Chase , Morgan Stanley , and Wells Fargo serving as joint bookrunners.bloomberg+2
The deal comes as Alphabet has indicated it could spend up to $205 billion on capital expenditures in 2026, roughly double its 2025 outlays, to build data centers and computing infrastructure for its Gemini AI models and cloud services. That spending contributed to Alphabet posting its first quarter of negative free cash flow since its 2004 initial public offering.investing+2
Alphabet has already sold more than $50 billion of debt in the first half of 2026 and last tapped the U.S. high-grade market in February before issuing bonds in Swiss francs, British pounds, euros, Canadian dollars, and Japanese yen.businesstimes
Investor appetite for AI-related bonds cooled in July amid concerns over whether massive investments will generate adequate returns. A BlackRock-linked firm last week sold $12.5 billion of bonds tied to a Meta Platforms data center project in Texas to initially lackluster demand, following soft interest for an offering by Amazon Amazon.com, Inc. .businesstimes
Goldman Sachs's Amanda Lynam, head of credit strategy research, said in a discussion published August 5 that while hyperscalers could theoretically add roughly $2 trillion of incremental debt and remain investment-grade, the U.S. investment-grade bond market can reasonably absorb only about $510 billion of additional hyperscaler issuance before concentration concerns arise. J.P. Morgan estimated separately that hyperscalers could collectively issue around $1.7 trillion of additional high-grade debt before attracting greater investor concentration concerns.aninews+1
Lynam characterized the recent widening in AI-related credit spreads as an orderly repricing rather than a sign of market saturation. "There's a big difference between how much the group of hyperscalers can issue while staying investment grade and how much the bond market can easily absorb," she said.goldmansachs
