volkswagen-newsroom.com.brusselssignal.eu.volkswagen-newsroom.com+1.Volkswagen said on Friday, October 30, that one-off charges weighed heavily on its Brand Group Core, which includes the Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT & CUPRA and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brands. The group's operating result for January through September fell to 4.33 billion euros from 4.72 billion euros a year earlier, and its operating margin slipped to 4.1% from 4.4%, according to the company. Volkswagen named three main charges: restructuring expenses, the planned sale of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH, and the end of ID.4 production in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which has already taken place. Without those items, the brand group's margin would have been 4.9%.volkswagen-newsroom.com
The update came a day after the wider group reported a third-quarter operating loss of about 5.9 billion euros. Most of that loss came from roughly 7.8 billion euros in special items, including a 6.4 billion euro goodwill impairment on its Porsche stake.brusselssignal.eu
The charges hit the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand hardest. Its operating margin fell to 1.3%, which the company said was well below original expectations. Its operating result dropped to 813 million euros from 1.48 billion euros, and revenue fell 2.9% to 61.95 billion euros. Excluding special items, the brand's margin would have been 2.6%. Unit sales across the brand group were 3.75 million vehicles, and revenue was 106.4 billion euros, both close to last year's levels.volkswagen-newsroom.com
Škoda helped support the results with an 8.3% margin and a 7.4% rise in operating result to 1.92 billion euros. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles more than doubled its operating result to 465 million euros. SEAT & CUPRA earned just 6 million euros. Net cash flow for the brand group fell to 1.43 billion euros from 4.34 billion euros.volkswagen-newsroom.com
Volkswagen said high fuel prices and government incentives boosted demand for battery-electric cars, especially in Germany. However, that shift is cutting into sales of its higher-margin combustion-engine models. In response, the company is temporarily pausing development of the future ID.Golf until it can safely fund the investment. It also expects more restructuring costs from expanded early-retirement schemes under its "Zukunft Volkswagen" agreement.volkswagen-newsroom.com
"Our electric vehicles are attractive, and we are seeing a significant upturn in demand. At the same time, they do not yet achieve the margins of our combustion engine models," said David Powels, chief financial officer of the Volkswagen brand and Brand Group Core.volkswagen-newsroom.com
At group level, Volkswagen's nine-month operating result was close to break-even at 0.1 billion euros, weighed down by 8.7 billion euros in special items. The company kept its 2026 forecast of about 315 billion euros in revenue and an operating margin of up to 1%. Excluding the roughly 10 billion euros in special items it expects this year, it targets a margin of around 4%. Volkswagen had already cut its margin guidance on September 18.marketscreener.com+2
