Equipped with a 300-megapixel infrared camera, Roman captures a field of view 100 times larger than the Hubble Space Telescope's, enabling it to survey all the stars in the Milky Way in roughly one month — a task that would take Hubble about a century. The Wide Field Instrument, Roman's primary science camera, incorporates precision optical coatings from Alluxa Apple Inc. , Inc. for its prism, grism, and eight science filters. A central objective is resolving tensions in measurements of the universe's expansion rate. Cosmologist Daniel Scolnic of Duke University has noted that "in the last few years, there have been measurements saying that model might be wrong," referring to the standard cosmological framework describing the accelerating expansion driven by dark energy.
