blog+1blogtheverge+1Google Alphabet Inc. announced on Tuesday a multi-year partnership with Jimmy Donaldson, the YouTube creator known as MrBeast, to promote its Gemini AI assistant and Google Health products across his sprawling content empire.
The deal kicks off on September 5 with a video on the MrBeast channel in which Donaldson and his crew race through three extreme environments — jungle, desert, and Arctic — using Gemini for real-time guidance on identifying dangers and navigating brutal weather conditions. Donaldson will also integrate the Fitbit Air into a future challenge and appear in a standalone Gemini ad campaign showcasing how he uses the assistant to plan his large-scale stunts.blog
"He's tapping into Gemini to help him execute wilder concepts, showing his fans how they can use AI to help turn impossibly big ideas into reality," wrote Marvin Chow, Google's VP of Consumer and AI Marketing, in a blog post announcing the partnership.blog
The deal arrives as Google competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT and other rivals for consumer attention in the AI assistant market. Partnering with Donaldson, the first creator to reach 500 million YouTube subscribers, gives Google access to an audience that routinely delivers tens of millions of views per video. The Verge noted the partnership also comes amid a broader push by YouTube to lock in prominent creators with platform-exclusive deals, as competitors like Netflix court top talent.9to5google+1
The Google Health component represents a quieter but potentially more consequential bet. Google has struggled to gain ground against Apple's tightly integrated health ecosystem, and reaching MrBeast's younger audience could help normalize its fitness and wellness tools among users who might otherwise never open a health app.techbuzz
Brand integrations are well-trodden ground for MrBeast, who has previously partnered with Samsung and other major companies. For Google, the scale of a multi-year, multi-product arrangement spanning YouTube videos, ad campaigns, and hardware integration marks one of its most ambitious creator deals to date. Whether Gemini ends up feeling like a genuine part of the content or just another product placement will likely determine how the partnership is judged.theverge+1
