The update, available in beta to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States, allows Spark to automate desktop tasks such as file sorting and spreadsheet creation using locally stored documents.investing+1
The macOS integration enables Spark to access desktop files and Google Workspace simultaneously with user permission, extending the agent's reach beyond cloud-based services. Google said a future update will allow users to trigger and monitor Mac-based tasks remotely from their mobile devices. The Gemini macOS app itself first launched in April 2026 as a free download, but Spark's addition — previewed at Google I/O in May — marks its transformation into a local automation tool.technobezz+2
Gemini Spark, powered by Gemini 3.5 and Google's Antigravity orchestration system, was first announced at Google I/O 2026 as a cloud-based agent that runs continuously in the background. It began rolling out to AI Ultra subscribers in late May at $100 per month.blog+3
Alongside the macOS launch, Google expanded Spark's connected apps to include Google Tasks, Google Keep, Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals. The integrations enable actions such as converting notes into task lists, designing flyers, sharing files, making restaurant reservations, ordering groceries, and scheduling apartment tours. These connected apps are rolling out over the next week on web and mobile, with macOS support following in subsequent weeks.investing+1
Google also added Model Context Protocol support, allowing users to connect custom third-party apps by entering an MCP server URL in the Connected Apps settings. The feature requires the app's MCP server to follow standard specifications and is available to eligible Spark users in the U.S.google
The update introduced real-time topic tracking, a feature that lets Spark monitor blogs, news sites, social media, finance, shopping, weather, sports, and email on behalf of users. Users can set specific conditions — such as a stock hitting a price threshold or a sports match result — and Spark will alert them when those conditions are met. The capability extends Spark's role from task executor to persistent monitor, running even when a user's device is locked or closed.eigent+3
