bloomberg.com.finance.yahoo.com.theedgesingapore.com.Apple is set to raise $7.5 billion from an investment-grade bond offering after investors placed about $31 billion of orders, more than four times the deal's size, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, November 5, citing people familiar with the matter. The final amount is larger than the roughly $7 billion first discussed earlier in the day. According to Bloomberg, the demand came from investors looking for a break from a wave of AI-related debt deals, and it held up even as markets broadly sold off.bloomberg.com
This is the iPhone maker's first trip to the bond market in more than a year. It also adds to a run of borrowing by big US technology companies. Earlier on Thursday, Bloomberg had said the size was still undecided and could change with investor demand.theedgesingapore.com
The bonds come in seven parts, with maturities from two to 10 years. There are two floating-rate notes due in 2028 and 2029 and five fixed-rate notes due between 2028 and 2036, Reuters reported Thomson Reuters Corporation , citing a regulatory filing. Reuters said it could not independently verify the size of the deal, and Apple did not immediately respond to its request for comment.reuters.com
Initial price talk on the fixed-rate notes started at about 45 basis points over Treasuries for the two-year notes and 80 basis points for the 10-year notes. The floating-rate notes were marketed at spreads equivalent to SOFR, Investing.com reported. Bank of America , Deutsche Bank , Goldman Sachs The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and JPMorgan are managing the sale. Goldman declined to comment on the size, according to Reuters.newsobserver.com+1
Proceeds are earmarked for general corporate purposes, including stock buybacks, dividends and capital expenditures, the people told Bloomberg. The filing also lists working capital, acquisitions and debt repayment as possible uses, Investing.com noted.finance.yahoo.com+1
Some analysts warned against reading the sale as a sign that Apple needs cash or is funding AI. One commentary on Yahoo Finance called it routine capital-structure management by "one of the strongest cash generators in corporate America" and said investors should watch the final pricing, the pace of buybacks and interest expense.finance.yahoo.com
Apple's previous bond deal was in May 2025. It sold $4.5 billion of debt in four parts and drew about $10 billion in orders, Reuters reported. The new offering is Apple's first seven-part bond deal in about a decade, MacDailyNews noted. It comes as the tech sector borrows heavily to pay for AI expansion.macdailynews.com+2
