x+2waymo+1euronewsAlphabet's autonomous driving unit Waymo has registered new corporate entities in Spain and France, adding to a rapid succession of European legal filings that suggest the robotaxi operator is laying groundwork for a broad continental presence.
The company registered "Waymo Iberia SL" in Spain on June 11, 2026, and "Waymo France" in Paris on June 23, 2026, according to filings first reported by The Road to Autonomy. The registrations follow the creation of Waymo Germany GmbH, which was incorporated on May 13 and entered into Munich's commercial register on June 15, with a stated purpose covering autonomous ride-hailing services.x+4
The use of "Iberia" in the Spanish entity's name has drawn attention, as it could signal ambitions extending to Portugal as well. Waymo has not publicly commented on any of the three filings or confirmed plans to launch services in those markets.x
The European registrations come as Waymo pursues an aggressive international expansion strategy. In October 2025, the company announced plans to bring driverless robotaxis to London in 2026, partnering with Uber-backed Moove to manage its fleet. Waymo has also announced plans for Tokyo, making it the company's first international market.bloomberg+1
The push abroad is backed by a $16 billion funding round closed in early 2026 that valued Waymo at $126 billion. Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said the company expects to surpass one million paid weekly rides in the United States by year's end.waymo+1
The filings coincide with a shifting regulatory environment. In June, 18 European transport ministers signed a joint declaration backing large-scale cross-border testing of autonomous vehicles, aiming to replace fragmented national pilot programs with a coordinated continental framework.euronews
None of the newly registered entities guarantee that commercial robotaxi services are imminent. The Germany filing, for instance, came without any public announcement or timeline from Waymo. Commercial deployments typically follow months or years after such legal formations, requiring extensive regulatory approvals, mapping, and testing in each jurisdiction.zagdaily
