  • Arkeologer har bekreftet oppdagelsen av et gresk skipsvrak fra det 4. århundre f.Kr. nær øya Vis, Kroatia, noe som gjør det til et av de eldste skipsvrakene som noen gang er funnet i Adriaterhavet.
  • Vraket ble funnet på 30–50 meters dyp utenfor Komiža og inneholder bemerkelsesverdig godt bevarte gjenstander, inkludert hellenistisk keramikk, personlige eiendeler, menneskelige levninger og et blybelagt treskrog.
  • Skipet antas å ha fraktet forsyninger til den nyopprettede greske kolonien Issa (dagens Vis), med amforaer fylt med olivenolje, krydder og konservert mat.
  • Sjefsarkeolog Jurica Bezak fra det kroatiske konserveringsinstituttet understreket at stedet «ikke har sin like i regionen» på grunn av den ekstraordinære bevaringen av luksuskeramikk og den blybelagte trestrukturen.
  • Oppdagelsen gir unik innsikt i gammelgresk kolonisering og maritim handel i perioden da grekerne etablerte koloniene Issa (Vis) og Pharos (Hvar) på 4. århundre f.Kr..
