cnevpost+1cnevpostelectrichybridvehicletechnology+1Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD announced plans to build 6,000 flash-charging stations in overseas markets by the end of March 2027, with half of those — 3,000 stations — slated for Europe. The infrastructure buildout, disclosed by BYD Group General Manager Li Yunfei this week alongside a broader overseas brand restructuring, represents one of the largest charging network commitments by any automaker outside its home market.chinaevhome+1
The remaining 3,000 stations will be split between the Americas, which will receive 2,000, and the Asia-Pacific region, which will get 1,000. BYD's Flash Charging technology delivers up to 1,500 kW through a single CCS2 connector in Europe, capable of taking a compatible vehicle from 10% to 70% battery in five minutes and to 97% in nine minutes. The system is roughly four times more powerful than most ultra-fast chargers currently operating on the continent.byd+3
BYD opened its first commercial Flash Charging station in Germany in June, marking an early milestone in the European rollout. The company has partnered with Shell and local energy providers to accelerate deployment. In China, BYD has already built more than 7,000 Flash Charge stations across 325 cities and aims to reach 20,000 domestically by the end of 2026.carnewschina+3
The charging investment comes as BYD's European presence grows rapidly. In the UK, the company registered 37,995 vehicles in the first half of 2026, a 95% year-on-year increase, according to Electric Hybrid Vehicle Technology. BYD has become the UK's best-selling EV brand in 2026, overtaking Tesla , Kia, BMW, and Volkswagen.theevreport+2
Across Europe more broadly, BYD registered 37,580 vehicles in its best single month to date and posted 136.6% year-on-year growth in May. In February, BYD outsold Tesla in European registrations for the first time, with 17,954 units versus 17,664.tridenstechnology+1
The charging announcement accompanied a wider overhaul of BYD's overseas brand structure. The company will consolidate its Dynasty and Ocean product lines under the unified BYD brand internationally, merge operations for its Denza and Fang Cheng Bao marques, and maintain Yangwang as an independent luxury label. BYD has reiterated its target of 1.5 million overseas vehicle sales in 2026, a 50% increase from approximately 1.05 million exports in 2025.eletric-vehicles+2
