  • Des scientifiques du King's College de Londres et du British Antarctic Survey ont publié la première étude attribuant directement le recul d'un glacier antarctique majeur à l'activité humaine.
  • L'étude, publiée dans The Cryosphere, a révélé que le réchauffement des océans d'origine humaine, débuté dans les années 1960, a accentué le recul rapide du glacier Pine Island d'environ un cinquième.
  • Les modèles suggèrent que le glacier pourrait se stabiliser brièvement ce siècle sur une crête rocheuse, mais que l'influence humaine pourrait à nouveau dominer le recul d'ici les années 2100.
