Solar overtakes wind as EU’s top renewable source

  • Eurostat reported Friday that solar accounted for 41.6% of the EU's renewable electricity in Q2 2026, up from 37% a year earlier.
  • Wind power followed at 27.7% and hydro at 22.6%, as overall renewables dipped slightly from 54.3% to 54.1% year over year.
  • Latvia led member states at 97.7% renewable electricity, while Slovakia trailed at 19.8%, highlighting wide disparities across the bloc.
