salesforce+1theverge+1salesforce+1Slack Salesforce, Inc. on Thursday debuted Slack Code, a feature that turns its workplace messaging platform into a collaborative coding environment where teams can build software alongside AI agents in dedicated project channels.
The product, announced August 20, 2026, allows any team member to tag a coding agent — such as Anthropic's Claude Code, Cognition's Devin, GitHub Microsoft Corporation Copilot, or Vercel's agent — directly in a Slack conversation. The agent then spins up a dedicated code channel where everyone involved can watch the work unfold, review code diffs, view live HTML previews, and approve changes before they ship.salesforce+1
"This isn't your traditional coding experience, with one person and one agent working in a silo on their own," Slack VP of product Katie Steigman said in a demo video. "In the Code channel, the whole team and the agent work together on the build."gizmodo
Slack Code channels are project-specific and open by default. When a task is complete, the channel archives itself automatically, keeping workspaces tidy while preserving a searchable audit log of what happened. High-stakes actions like merging code to production require human sign-off, and agents inherit Slack's existing security model and admin controls rather than requiring separate infrastructure.theregister+3
Slack's pitch extends beyond developers. Product managers, designers, and other non-technical staff can participate without opening a terminal. The company's example scenario has a product manager spotting a bug report, asking an agent to architect a fix, then bringing in an engineer to review the diff before the agent opens a pull request.salesforce
The feature is available on all Slack plans starting today, with founding partner integrations from Anthropic, Cognition, GitHub, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Vercel. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff announced the launch on X, calling it "real multiplayer coding" and noting it would be showcased at Dreamforce.theverge+2
Slack says the APIs powering code channels will eventually open to the broader developer community, enabling agents to handle work beyond software development — from marketing campaigns to legal document review.salesforce+1
Rob Seaman, EVP and GM of Slack, framed the launch in terms of visibility: "AI only creates value when it's part of how a team actually works, not something people go do alone in another tab."salesforce
