IBM and OpenAI announce partnership on AI and cybersecurity

OpenAI's specialized cybersecurity models are now available through Amazon Amazon.com, Inc. ↘ 0.94% Bedrock, marking the first time offensive security AI of this caliber has been distributed through a major cloud marketplace. The move, announced August 11, places tools capable of finding zero-day vulnerabilities and developing exploit chains inside the infrastructure where enterprise security teams already operate.

Two Tiers for Defenders

The Daybreak program offers two access levels on Bedrock. Daybreak Blue provides GPT-5.6 Sol with safeguards recalibrated for defensive security work including vulnerability discovery, detection engineering, and incident response. Daybreak Red gates access to GPT-5.6-Cyber, a purpose-trained model built on Sol but with deliberately reduced safeguards so it can perform tasks general-purpose models refuse, such as exploit validation and security testing.developer-tech+3

GPT-5.6-Cyber completed 95 percent of advanced cybersecurity task requests in OpenAI's internal evaluation. IBM Partnership Deepens Cyber Collaboration

Days after the Bedrock launch, IBM International Business Machines Corporation ↘ 1.19% announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI that includes expanded cybersecurity collaboration through Daybreak. The Distribution Question

The availability on Bedrock converts what was a bespoke access program into something provisioned through existing AWS contracts and billing relationships. OpenAI still controls the vetting criteria for Daybreak Red, but the provisioning path now runs through a third party's marketplace — and neither company has publicly detailed how rigorously vetting will survive that transition.wionews
