videogameschronicle+1videogameschronicle+1videogameschronicle+1Multiple videos appearing to show Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay and a full map of the game's open world surfaced online on August 18, just nine days before Rockstar Games' planned Netflix showcase. The leak, attributed to a group calling itself Cyberleek, has drawn DMCA takedown notices from Rockstar — a response widely interpreted as confirmation the footage is authentic.
The leaked clips feature co-protagonist Jason at his beachfront home, previously seen in official trailers. In one video, Jason picks up a basketball and shoots hoops using a timing-based mechanic, earning a 2% increase to a "Focus" stat for each successful shot — suggesting RPG-style character progression tied to recreational activities.videogameschronicle+2
A second clip shows Jason driving on a highway before crashing into a delivery van. The ensuing confrontation escalates into melee combat, ending with Jason killing the driver with a wrench and triggering a two-star wanted level on what appears to be a six-star system. The footage also reveals a fuel gauge, in-car loadout and storage options, and a dual-currency HUD displaying both wallet and home funds.pushsquare+2
Alongside the gameplay, Cyberleek published what it claims is GTA 6's full map, dividing the state of Leonida into five counties: Lummox, Kelly, Leonard, Vice Dale, and Mariana. The map shows extensive rural areas north and west of Vice City, a chain of southern islands, and multiple offshore locations including Dalton Island, Gloriana Key, and Catalan Bay.notebookcheck+1
Rockstar has not publicly commented on the footage, but the studio began issuing copyright takedowns against posts sharing the material. VGC reported that one user received a DMCA notice directly from Rockstar, while numerous posts containing the clips and map images disappeared from social media platforms. This mirrors Rockstar's response to the 2022 network intrusion that exposed over an hour of early development footage.comicbook+2
Cyberleek claims its actions are a protest against Take-Two Interactive's decision to release GTA 6 as a digital-only title, demanding a public commitment to physical distribution. However, as multiple outlets have noted, Rockstar has never confirmed a digital-only release — the claim originates entirely from Cyberleek itself.videogameschronicle+1
The official Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look remains scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 27 at 3 PM ET, with the footage arriving on Rockstar's YouTube channel six hours latervideogameschronicle+1. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
