  • A study published in Science Advances identified 142 clay beads and pendants made roughly 15,000 years ago at four sites in present-day Israel.
  • Fifty preserved fingerprints — the largest Paleolithic assemblage ever documented — show children, adolescents, and adults all shaped the ornaments, according to researchers at Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
  • The findings push back the symbolic use of clay in Southwest Asia by thousands of years, overturning the belief it emerged only with farming.
