BTS comeback concert drew 18.4M Netflix viewers, streamer says

BTS reunited for their first full-group performance in nearly four years on March 21, delivering a one-hour concert from Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square that drew 18.4 million global viewers on Netflix ↘ 1.77% in its first 24 hours, the company said Tuesday deadline+1. The event, titled "BTS The Comeback Live | Arirang," topped Netflix's film chart in 77 countries, according to streaming tracker FlixPatrol koreatimes+1, and generated more than 2.62 billion social media impressions x.

A Global Event Streamed to 190 Countries

The free outdoor concert, broadcast live to approximately 190 countries, marked Netflix's first-ever global music concert livestream. Directed by Hamish Hamilton, the British producer known for Super Bowl halftime shows and Olympic ceremonies, the performance opened with "Body to Body," the lead track from BTS's fifth studio album "Arirang," released the day before. RM, the group's leader, greeted the crowd with a simple "Hello Seoul, we're back".Swikblog+4

According to HYBE, the South Korean entertainment company behind BTS, roughly 104,000 fans attended in person, with 22,000 holding designated viewing tickets and others watching from screens installed around the square. Netflix's Live Strategy Takes Shape

The viewership figure, based on Netflix's internal first-party "Live+1" data, positions the concert as a milestone in the streamer's push into live programming. Netflix reportedly invested around 10 billion won in production costs, though neither the company nor HYBE officially confirmed the amount. Brandon Riegg, Netflix's vice president for nonfiction series and sports, said ahead of the event that the company sees growing opportunities for live events in South Korea.매일경제+2

The concert set list blended new material from "Arirang" with fan favorites including "Butter," "MIC Drop," and "Dynamite," and closed with a traditional Korean music sequence performed in front of Gyeongbok Palace. RM performed much of the show seated after sustaining an ankle injury, though it did little to dampen the atmosphere.yahoo+1

A Comeback With Global Stakes

The reunion comes after BTS members completed South Korea's mandatory military service and pursued solo careers following a group hiatus announced in 2022. The concert serves as a launchpad for an 82-date world tour beginning in April, with 41 North American dates that sold out nearly 2.4 million tickets in early March. Bloomberg reported the tour could rival Taylor Swift's record-breaking $2 billion Eras Tour in earnings.hollywoodreporter+2
