variety+1.deadline.variety.Netflix and Shondaland said on Thursday, Oct. 8, that they have ordered a new limited series set in the Bridgerton world. It will tell the story of a young Lady Violet and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, the parents of the show's eight Bridgerton siblings. The show is the franchise's second prequel. It follows the same model as 2023's "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story".netflix+2
"Similar to the massive global hit Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the series will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and tell the story of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton," Netflix said in its announcement. Shondaland put out the news as a letter from Lady Whistledown, the show's gossip columnist: "The love match that started it all shall soon be yours to see, dear reader".people+1
Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini will write and executive produce the series, and they will also be its showrunners. Tom Verica will direct and executive produce, and Betsy Beers is also an executive producer. According to Deadline, this is the first show Rhimes has written since "Queen Charlotte." She wrote every episode of that series except one, which Nardini wrote. Deadline also reported that people had expected the Violet project to be the first series ordered under the long-term overall deal Rhimes signed with Netflix in August.variety+2
Rhimes had hinted at the idea in March. "If we were going to do [another spinoff], Violet would be a great person to tell the story about, the Bridgerton mom," she said on Craig Melvin's podcast "Glass Half Full".people
The show has no title, cast or release date yet. Ruth Gemmell plays Violet in the main series. Connie Jenkins-Greig played a 12-year-old Violet in "Queen Charlotte," and it is not yet known whether she will come back. Rupert Evans played Edmund in a flashback in Season 2. In the main show, Edmund has died years before the story begins.upi+5
There is some source material to draw on. Julia Quinn, who wrote the Bridgerton novels, also wrote "Violet in Bloom," a novella about the couple's courtship and marriage.deadline+1
The news comes while Season 5 is filming in London. That season follows Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). TVLine reports it is set to come out in 2027. Netflix renewed the show for a sixth season in May 2025. Netflix says Season 4, which premiered in January, opened at No. 1 on its Global English TV list and reached the Top 10 in 92 countries. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Seasons 1 and 3 are among Netflix's 10 most-watched English-language series of all time.hollywoodreporter+3
Forbes pointed out that new Bridgerton seasons usually take about two years to arrive. That makes it unclear whether the Violet series will be released before or after the next season of the main show.forbes
