cnbc+1.qz.cnbc.Anthropic on Tuesday, Oct. 6, expanded its Claude Startups program. Approved founders now get $1,000 in Claude API credits, a free year of Claude Team for up to five premium seats, and up to $45,000 in discounts and credits from other companies through a new bundle the company calls the Claude Startup Stack. The program started in May and already has thousands of participating companies. It is now open to more organizations as the AI lab works to tie the next generation of businesses to its models.qz+1
The company said in a release that it created the program because "the benefits of AI will reach most people through the companies that build on top of models, rather than through the models alone," adding that this makes "partnering closely with founders and developers central to our mission".cnbc+1
Stack offers are grouped into build, design, analyze and grow categories. Members redeem each one with a code in the Claude Console. The listed offers include $5,000 in ClickHouse Cloud credits, 12 months of ElevenLabs, and three months of Granola Business free for up to 10 seats. A program addendum that took effect Oct. 6 says Anthropic does not fund or guarantee these third-party benefits, and that each offer falls under its provider's own terms.unite
The $1,000 in API credits expire six months after they are granted. They work only on Anthropic's own API through Claude Console, not on Amazon Web Services Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI. Members who get credits also receive higher API rate limits. They can book 45-minute virtual office hours with Anthropic's applied AI team, which run every other week. TechCrunch reported that members will also get access to Claude Marketplace.techcrunch+1
Startups founded within the last five years, or funded within the last two, can apply. They need a Claude Console account and a company email that matches their website's domain. The program is open to bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed companies. Founders backed by firms in Anthropic's partner venture network can get up to $100,000 in additional API credits through their investor. Before the expansion, the program page said a company had to be founded within four years and have institutional equity funding to qualify for credits.qz+1
The launch comes as Anthropic holds Claude Founder House San Francisco, a three-day event at Terra Gallery during SF Tech Week that runs from Oct. 6 to Oct. 8. On the closing day, Anthropic Labs head Mike Krieger is scheduled for a fireside chat and Chief Science Officer Jared Kaplan for a research session.anthropic+1
According to CNBC, most of Anthropic's revenue comes from business customers. The company has spent much of the past year trying to fend off OpenAI and Google, which both run their own startup programs, as it prepares for an initial public offering that is widely expected. Beth Robertson, Anthropic's head of startups, told Inc. that token costs, access to agentic tools and a lack of technical expertise hold founders back as they try to scale.inc+1
"An idea that used to need a team and a funding round to prove can now be built by a founder with a laptop and conviction," Robertson said.inc
