AI ’tissue clocks’ can estimate biological age of individual organs

19 sources
  • AI models trained on 40 tissue types predicted biological age within about five years, outperforming DNA-based methods, according to a study published Thursday in Nature Medicine.
  • Lungs, kidneys, and the pancreas showed accelerated aging as early as age 20, while the uterus shifted sharply around menopause, revealing that organs age on distinct schedules.
  • Blood-based versions of the clocks detected disease-linked aging patterns in Alzheimer's, Crohn's disease, and diabetes, raising hopes for noninvasive organ-health monitoring.
