Zelda movie officially titled during 40th anniversary Direct

During Tuesday's Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, Nintendo confirmed that its upcoming live-action film will be titled simply "The Legend of Zelda," with series creator Shigeru Miyamoto offering the first hints about the movie's narrative direction. The film is set to hit theaters on April 30, 2027, distributed by Sony Pictures.

A Title With Intent

The decision to forgo a subtitle was deliberate, according to Miyamoto. "This is an original film based on the many stories, ideas, and concepts of the series, built up through the games for 40 years," he said during the livestream. The film, directed by Wes Ball, stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, Bo Bragason as Zelda, Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf, and Dichen Lachman as Impa. Polygon reported that Yvonne Strahovski is attached in an unknown role, and that Sam Neill may appear as the King of Hyrule in what could be the late actor's final film performance.
