Villeneuve to delay Bond casting until after ‘Dune 3’

Denis Villeneuve will delay his search for the next James Bond until after completing "Dune: Part Three" next year, with the acclaimed director seeking an unknown British actor in his late twenties or early thirties to embark on a complete franchise reboot, according to industry sources.deadline

The casting timeline, revealed Tuesday by Deadline, effectively rules out 99.9% of the fan-favorite actors previously speculated for the role. Non-British stars including Timothée Chalamet, Glen Powell, Austin Butler, and Jacob Elordi are now eliminated from consideration, while established British actors like Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Henry Cavill are deemed too high-profile or too old for Villeneuve's vision.screenrant+2

Fresh Start for 007

Bond 26 will mark a complete departure from the Daniel Craig era, with sources confirming "this is a new Bond, a fresh beginning, a complete reboot". Unlike previous transitions where actors like Judi Dench carried over between different Bonds, this installment will feature an entirely new cast and creative team.deadline+2

Villeneuve and producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal are seeking what Ian Fleming originally described as "a blunt instrument" – a lethal but "extremely dull, uninteresting man to whom things happened". One insider emphasized the new Bond needs to look like "he could kill you with his bare hands in a trice".worldofreel+1

The script by Steven Knight, known for "Peaky Blinders" and "Eastern Promises," is drawing inspiration from Fleming's earliest novels including "Casino Royale," "From Russia With Love," and "Doctor No". Sources suggest the story may explore Bond's Royal Navy background before his recruitment into MI6, potentially depicting how he earned his 00-agent status.cinemablend+2
