‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ trailer debuts with Punisher, Hulk, and organic web twist

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures released the first full trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on Wednesday morning, revealing Tom Holland's return as Peter Parker alongside a roster of familiar MCU faces — and a dramatic new twist on the web-slinger's powers. The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, is set for theaters on July 31, 2026.ew+1

A Spider in Metamorphosis

The trailer picks up years after the events of 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with the world forgetting Peter Parker's identity following a spell cast by Doctor Strange. Peter is once again operating anonymously, but something is changing inside him. His DNA appears to be evolving, granting him the ability to produce organic webs from his body rather than relying on synthetic web-shooters — a shift that echoes Tobey Maguire's portrayal of the character in Sam Raimi's original trilogy.kotaku+1

"We are doing something that has never been done before," Holland said in a video launching the trailer's viral marketing campaign, which saw Sony distribute seconds-long clips to fans and influencers around the globe before the full trailer debuted at sunrise in New York.ew+1

New Allies and Old Enemies

Jon Bernthal reprises his role as Frank Castle, the Punisher, fresh off his appearance in Daredevil: Born Again, and the trailer makes clear the two characters will share substantial screen time — including a moment where Castle plows a van into Spider-Man's side. Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner, now apparently working as a college professor in his human form rather than as the Smart Hulk hybrid. Michael Mando is back as Scorpion, a character last glimpsed in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming nearly a decade ago.ign+3

The cast also includes Zendaya returning as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, rapper Marvin "Kr" Jones III as the comic book villain Tombstone, and Liza Colón-Zayas. The trailer hints at the presence of The Hand, the ninja organization from Marvel's Netflix era, according to IGN.artthreat+2

The Sadie Sink Mystery

Perhaps the trailer's biggest question mark is Sadie Sink's unnamed character, shown only from behind in a long coat and seemingly wielding mind-control abilities. Speculation has centered on the possibility that the Stranger Things actress could be playing the mutant telepath Jean Grey, potentially marking the X-Men's entrance into the MCU. Sink herself has deflected the theories. "I love all of the theories," she told Entertainment Weekly, without confirming or denying any of them. She is also expected to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, suggesting her character will have a lasting role in the franchise.gizmodo+2
