99bitcoins+199bitcoinsambcryptoFor the first time, the number of weekly spot trades executed on Solana's decentralized exchanges has exceeded those on the New York Stock Exchange, a milestone that highlights how rapidly on-chain trading activity is scaling even as it remains a fraction of traditional markets by dollar volume.
In the week ending September 13, Solana-based DEXs recorded approximately 208 million spot trades, compared with roughly 190 million on the NYSE. The comparison, made public on September 22 by The Kobeissi Letter citing Blockworks data, measures transaction counts rather than the value of assets exchanged.99bitcoins+3
The numbers demand context. Solana's DEX infrastructure operates around the clock and across every time zone, while the NYSE is limited to weekday U.S. trading hours. A typical Solana swap is also far smaller than a typical NYSE trade. During the same week, Solana DEXs generated roughly $2.67 billion in volume, according to TokenPost, with SOL-stablecoin pairs making up about 45% and memecoin pairs accounting for roughly 27%.tokenpost+1
Jupiter, Solana's largest DEX aggregator, drove much of the activity, processing more than 80 million trades in September so far, a 38% increase from the prior month. Pump.fun led by individual trade count with over 14.3 million transactions during the week.99bitcoins+1
The trade-count record sits within a broader trend. According to DeFiLlama data cited by AMBCrypto, cumulative DEX volume across all chains crossed $600 billion in the third quarter, surpassing Q2's $572 billion. Solana's stablecoin supply hit a record $16.5 billion on September 22, jumping more than 6% in a single week and adding nearly $1 billion in fresh liquidity.ambcrypto
Tokenized equity adoption is adding another layer. The number of tokenized equity holders on Solana reached a record 973,000 in September, up nearly 60% since August, according to Blockworks data. Weekly spot DEX trades on the network have climbed roughly 185% from their July lows.99bitcoins+1
The trading surge coincides with a technical milestone. Developers deployed Alpenglow, Solana's largest consensus upgrade, to the public testnet this week. The upgrade replaces the current TowerBFT system with a new protocol called Votor, which aims to cut transaction finality from about 13 seconds to roughly 0.15 seconds. Anza, the team behind Solana's Agave client, confirmed that validators need version 4.3 to participate.99bitcoins
"The fact that Solana's DEX traffic is diverging so sharply from the NYSE is perhaps reflective of a more fundamental change in where liquidity is flowing," AMBCrypto noted. Whether that flow translates into sustained demand for SOL heading into the fourth quarter remains the open question.ambcrypto
