siemens-energy+1energate-messengerreuters+1Siemens Energy announced on Monday that it will unify its operations and its wind turbine subsidiary Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy under a single new brand: Omterra. The move marks the company's most visible step toward full independence from former parent Siemens AG, six years after its 2020 spin-off as a publicly listed company.siemens-energy+2
The rebranding process is scheduled to begin later this calendar year and will be implemented in stages, with the Omterra name eventually replacing both Siemens Energy and Siemens Gamesa globally. The company's stock exchange listing and legal structure will remain unchanged during the transition.reuters+1
The name Omterra had been in preparation for years. A domain name dispute decision from March 2025 noted that it was public record as early as March 2022 that Siemens Energy was pursuing Omterra as a global brand. The trademark was formally registered by Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG on June 30, 2026.trademarkia+1
The rebrand carries direct financial benefits. According to Energate Messenger, Siemens Energy paid around €300 million to Siemens AG for brand and name licensing rights in its last financial year alone. Shedding the Siemens name will eliminate those fees, providing a recurring annual saving that strengthens the company's bottom line.energate-messenger
The announcement comes as Siemens Energy has undergone a broader transformation under CEO Christian Bruch, who has led the company since its founding and whose contract was extended through April 2030. The company has also committed to a $1 billion investment in U.S. gas turbine manufacturing capacity.siemens-energy+1
Siemens Energy was spun off from Siemens AG in September 2020, with shareholders receiving one Siemens Energy share for every two Siemens shares held. Siemens AG subsequently reduced its stake, but the licensing arrangement kept a financial and brand-level connection between the two companies. The Omterra rebrand severs that last major tie, according to Modern Power Systems, which described it as "the next stage in the company's separation from Siemens AG five years after listing."modernpowersystems+1
