biz.chosun+1biz.chosun+1biz.chosunSamsung Electronics is preparing to bring stablecoin functionality to Samsung Wallet by the end of 2026, a move that would allow Galaxy smartphone users to open stablecoin accounts, send cross-border remittances, and make in-store payments without downloading a separate cryptocurrency app.
The company first revealed the plan at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 on July 22 in London, where product manager Lee Dinham said Samsung Wallet would "expand beyond cash and savings" to "embrace new forms of digital value, including stablecoins." An on-stage demo displayed a stablecoin account interface showing a USDC balance with options to send, receive, and top up funds.cryptobriefing+2
New details emerged this week after virtual asset outlet Sandmark reported on August 9, citing a written reply from Samsung Electronics, that the company will "sequentially add stablecoin account opening, cross-border overseas remittances, and in-store point-of-sale payments to Samsung Wallet" starting in some countries this year. Samsung plans to expand the service scope step by step based on each country's regulatory environment and market conditions.biz.chosun+1
Samsung aims to preinstall the stablecoin feature on more than 800 million Samsung Wallets worldwide by year-end, according to the company's statements. Samsung Wallet on Galaxy smartphones is currently available in 61 countries, with approximately 19 million users in South Korea alone.coindesk+1
The integration could deliver measurable savings for Samsung's own operations. Kang Hyeong-gu, a professor at Hanyang University and adviser to the Presidential Committee on Policy Planning, estimated that if Samsung Electronics uses stablecoins for internal remittances, the company could save up to $103.9 million annually by avoiding exchange costs and intermediary bank fees.biz.chosun
Despite the new timeline details, Samsung has not confirmed which stablecoins will be supported, though a USDC mockup was prominently displayed at the Unpacked event. The company has also not named its technology partners, the underlying blockchain network, or a custody model. Dinham told the Unpacked audience that the integration would make Samsung "one of the first major mobile brands to bring native stablecoins to a smartphone, enabling fast and trusted digital value transfers."crypto+4
