bloombergbloombergcnbcPorsche announced on Monday a five-year partnership worth 1.25 billion euros ($1.5 billion) with Tata Consultancy Services to deploy artificial intelligence across its operations, while also agreeing to sell its IT consulting unit MHP to the Indian software services giant for 320 million euros.
The agreement will bring AI technology to Porsche's engineering, manufacturing, operations, and customer experience areas, TCS said in a statement. As part of the broader arrangement, TCS will acquire Porsche's Germany-based consulting unit MHP Management- und IT-Beratung GmbH, which employs around 4,500 people.cnbc+2
The partnership will combine Porsche's "automotive expertise with TCS's digital and AI capabilities," Michael Leiters, chairman of Porsche, said in a press release. "We are firmly aligning our company with our core business," Leiters added, noting the sale of MHP is part of Porsche's "Sportwagenschmiede 35" strategy aimed at improving profitability and cash flow.cnbc
TCS CEO K. Krithivasan said the acquisition would allow his firm to "industrialize AI at scale for Porsche" while enhancing TCS's presence in the German market and among European automotive and industrial customers. The acquisition is expected to close within three to four months, subject to regulatory approvals.businesstimes+1
The deal comes as TCS has been aggressively pursuing AI-led business transformation contracts. Since the start of 2026, TCS has secured multiple such deals and reported annualized AI revenues of $2.6 billion in the June quarter, up 13.6% from the prior quarter.cnbc
The partnership also arrives at a turbulent time for Indian IT services companies, which face pressure from the rise of AI automation. The Nifty IT index is down nearly 20% from the start of the year, compared to just over 7% for the broader Nifty 50.cnbc
For Porsche, the deal represents a further step in streamlining operations to focus on its core sports car business. The sale of MHP and the AI partnership signal the automaker's intent to outsource technology capabilities while retaining the benefits of AI-driven innovation across its value chain. The agreement will give TCS a stronger foothold in Europe, positioning the firm as a consulting partner for broader industry customers beyond Porsche.bloomberg+2
