The album's origins trace back five years to a meeting between McCartney and producer Andrew Watt, known for his work revitalizing legacy acts including the Rolling Stones and Elton John. While idly playing guitar over tea, McCartney stumbled upon a chord he did not recognize. He kept experimenting, changing one note then another, until he had a three-chord sequence that Watt suggested they record.
