bloombergtechcrunchtechcrunchNvidia CEO Jensen Huang argued on Tuesday that the AI industry does not need any new laws or regulations, telling attendees at Salesforce's Dreamforce 2026 conference in San Francisco that market forces alone are enough to ensure companies innovate safely.bloomberg
Huang called it a "false choice" to suggest that AI development must sacrifice speed for safety, according to Bloomberg — a position he has repeated across multiple public appearances this year. The remarks came during the opening day of Dreamforce, Salesforce's annual conference running September 15–17 at the Moscone Center.Simpler Media Group, Inc.+1
The comments arrived just one day after Huang appeared at the All-In Summit, where he took a phone call on stage from President Donald Trump. During that exchange, Huang and Trump aligned on the need to press ahead with AI development without pausing, with Huang telling the president, "We're not going to let that happen, sir," when Trump warned against slowing down.techcrunch
Huang's stance puts him at odds with several prominent tech leaders. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called to "slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI," and both Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman have publicly expressed agreement with Amodei, according to TechCrunch. At the All-In Summit, Huang also dismissed predictions of human extinction from AI as irresponsible, though he expressed support for independent safety evaluators to hold AI labs to high standards.barrons+2
Public opinion, however, suggests broad unease. Recent Gallup polling found that seven in 10 Americans oppose the construction of data centers in their area, with more than half citing environmental concerns.techcrunch
Huang's anti-regulation posture is closely tied to Nvidia's commercial interests. The company, which dominates the market for AI training chips, recently agreed to acquire open-source AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion as it expands beyond hardware. Any regulatory slowdown in AI development could directly affect demand for Nvidia's products, giving Huang a clear financial incentive to keep the industry moving at full speed.cnbc
