Nexperia partners with Tata to make chips in India amid split from Chinese parent

Dutch chipmaker Nexperia and Tata Electronics on Thursday announced a sweeping strategic partnership to manufacture and package semiconductors in India, a deal that deepens Nexperia's pivot away from its Chinese parent company Wingtech following a bitter corporate dispute.reuters+1

The Deal

Under the agreement, Nexperia and Tata Electronics are laying the groundwork to produce Nexperia's MOSFET power control chips at Tata's upcoming 300mm semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat — a facility representing an investment of roughly $11 billion. The companies will also cooperate on testing and assembling Nexperia's discrete semiconductor products at Tata's packaging facility in Jagiroad, Assam, where Tata is investing $3 billion. Fallout With Wingtech

The partnership comes against the backdrop of Nexperia's ongoing rupture with Wingtech. The dispute was triggered by a September 2025 intervention by the Dutch government aimed at preventing Nexperia from moving operations to China, as Reuters reported. Beijing retaliated by temporarily banning exports of Nexperia's chips packaged in Dongguan, sparking shortages for automakers. A Dutch court has since stripped Wingtech of control over Nexperia, and Thursday's deal was endorsed by Nexperia's current management board.aol

Tata's Broader Semiconductor Push

The Nexperia partnership was one of several deals Tata Electronics announced at the conference. According to Business Standard, Tata also signed memoranda of understanding with FUJIFILM ↗ 10.25% to develop semiconductor materials, with Dutch assembly solutions provider Besi BE Semiconductor Industries N.V. to strengthen advanced packaging capabilities, and with India's Semi-Conductor Laboratory for chip design and supply-chain localization.
