Building on Critical and Commercial Success

The original film was a standout success for both Sony and Netflix. After pandemic delays forced Sony to sell distribution rights to Netflix for over $100 million, "The Mitchells vs. the Machines" became the streaming platform's most-watched animated feature at the time, reaching 53 million households in its first month. The film earned a rare 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and swept all eight categories it was nominated for at the 2022 Annie Awards, including Best Animated Feature.cartoonbrew+3
