Samsung Electronics led the round, with co-leads Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT, and returning backer PSG Equity. New investors include Advent and BlackRock -managed funds, while ASML , Nvidia , Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Index Ventures, Lightspeed, Bpifrance, and Salesforce Ventures all returned from earlier rounds. Law firm Latham & Watkins advised General Catalyst and Andreessen Horowitz on the transaction.legaldesire+2
The deal nearly doubles the €11.7 billion valuation Mistral achieved in its September 2025 Series C, which was led by ASML. Mistral said it will use the capital to expand frontier research, scale compute capacity for training, build infrastructure, and accelerate international growth.sesamers+1
The funding comes amid a burst of commercial activity. On September 15, TotalEnergies and Mistral announced a three-year, €100 million-plus joint program to develop AI models for oil and gas exploration and reservoir engineering, including a shared scientific laboratory. A day later, Mistral and Mozilla unveiled a partnership placing Mistral's models inside Firefox Smart Window, Mozilla's AI browsing assistant, initially serving users in France and North America.mistral+3
Mistral's rapid ascent — from a €2 billion valuation in late 2023 to €21 billion three years later — reflects intensifying demand for a European alternative in a market dominated by American and Chinese competitors. The company has positioned itself around the concept of "sovereign AI," developing multilingual models trained on regional languages and cultural context. Whether that pitch can sustain the valuation will depend on Mistral converting partnerships like Samsung, TotalEnergies, and Mozilla into recurring revenue at a scale that justifies a $24 billion price tag.reuters+1
