Liam Hemsworth debuts as Geralt in Witcher season 4 trailer

Netflix ↘ 0.96% unveiled the first extended footage of Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia during their boxing broadcast of Canelo vs. Crawford on September 13, officially setting the stage for The Witcher Season 4's premiere on October 30. The clip shows Hemsworth's interpretation of the iconic monster hunter battling a spectral wraith, demonstrating both continuity with Henry Cavill's portrayal and his own distinctive take on the character's legendary growling voice and combat style.

Boxing Match Reveals New Geralt

Netflix strategically chose their live broadcast of the high-profile boxing event to debut the footage, with the streaming giant announcing the season's Halloween-adjacent premiere date during the fight between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The timing was particularly fitting, as showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich noted on Netflix's Tudum that "this is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together — hopefully forever".ign+1

The action-packed clip shows Geralt confronting a nightwraith using his signature Witcher Signs — first employing Aard to push the creature back, followed by Yrden to trap it within a magical snare, before ultimately crushing the glowing mass at its center and causing the wraith to dissolve into dark ash. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this marks the most substantial look at Hemsworth's performance following his initial casting announcement in October 2022 when Cavill departed the series.netflix+1

Hemsworth Steps Into Cavill's Boots

The casting change comes nearly three years after Cavill announced his departure from the series, with reports suggesting creative differences led to his exit. Hemsworth, known for his roles in The Hunger Games films, expressed his enthusiasm about taking on the role, stating he was "over the moon" and honored that Cavill was "handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf's blades for the next chapter of his adventure".hollywoodreporter

The upcoming season will feature eight episodes dropping simultaneously on October 30, abandoning Netflix's recent volume-release strategy used for other major series. The season's synopsis reveals that "after the Continent-altering events of Season Three, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies".redanianintelligence+1
