Gurman details iPhone Ultra specs ahead of Apple event

With Apple's ↗ 1.00% "Surprise and Shine" event just one week away, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has offered some of the most detailed information yet about the company's first foldable iPhone, widely expected to debut under the name iPhone Ultra.

What Gurman Revealed

In a video interview published by Tom's Guide, Gurman laid out a series of specs for the device. The iPhone Ultra will feature a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch inner foldable display, putting it slightly smaller than an iPad mini. It will include MagSafe support, the latest Apple Pro chip, and Apple's newest in-house modem.mashable+2

The phone will cost at least $2,000, with some estimates placing the ceiling as high as $2,500. Gurman said he expects the device to launch at the same time as or slightly after the iPhone 18 Pro, with availability potentially beginning as soon as September 19.tomsguide+2

Notably, the iPhone Ultra will ship without Face ID, relying instead on Touch ID — a tradeoff Gurman suggested may not bother many users. It will also lack a telephoto camera, which Gurman acknowledged could be a dealbreaker for some. On the software side, Gurman said iOS 27 will bring split-screen multitasking and drag-and-drop between apps to the foldable, features that have been standard on Android foldables for years. The iPhone Ultra is expected to headline Apple's September 9 event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which will feature a 2nm A20 Pro chip and camera upgrades.
