blog+1unite+1unite+1Google Alphabet Inc. on Wednesday rolled out a major productivity upgrade to Gemini Live, transforming its voice assistant from a conversational tool into one capable of executing multi-step tasks across a user's Google apps without supervision.
The centerpiece of the update is integration with Spark, Google's agentic task system. Users can now issue natural voice commands to set up complex, multi-step tasks that run autonomously across Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, and the web. Spark remembers the user's stated goal and can handle long-running, scheduled jobs over days or weeks, even when the Gemini app is not actively in use.blog+1
"Life moves fast, and speaking a prompt out loud is often the quickest way to get help with Gemini," wrote Neel Joshi, Director of Product Management for Gemini Live, in the announcement post. Google noted that 63% of Gemini users already talk to the assistant out loud.unite+1
Google's examples lean domestic: a user can ramble unstructured thoughts while commuting, and Spark will organize them into a structured outline in Google Docs. Families can ask Gemini to maintain a weekly meal plan and generate a grocery list from saved recipes.9to5google
Three additional capabilities ship alongside Spark. Daily Brief delivers a spoken summary combining Gmail and Calendar updates in response to prompts like "What's my daily brief?". A new hands-free inbox feature lets users search, summarize, star, archive, or delete Gmail messages through voice commands. Personal Intelligence gives Gemini Live memory across past conversations and connected Google apps including Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube.investing+1
Google emphasized that users need not specify which tool handles a given request. "You never need to figure out which tool to use — it connects the dots across your day in a single, unbroken conversation," the company said.9to5google
The features are rolling out now in the Gemini app, with Spark gated behind a Google AI Pro subscription and Daily Brief requiring Google AI Plus or above. Users must opt in by connecting their apps in Gemini Personal Intelligence settings. The update extends Google's recent push to deploy agentic Gemini capabilities across consumer and enterprise surfaces, following moves into Chrome, Waymo robotaxis, and legal-specific enterprise agents.unite+1
