Global crypto probe flags 7,700 suspects in child abuse crackdown

Chainalysis has announced the results of Operation Lighthouse, a first-of-its-kind multi-day intelligence sprint that brought together law enforcement agencies, cryptocurrency exchanges, and nonprofits to disrupt networks distributing child sexual abuse material. The operation generated 14,300 investigative leads after tracing 29,120 cryptocurrency addresses and digital identifiers linked to more than 100 CSAM platforms, forums, and distribution networks across the surface web and dark web.chainalysis+2

A Global Coalition Against Exploitation

Hosted at the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance in New York, Operation Lighthouse surfaced more than 7,700 suspect accounts across 11 cryptocurrency exchanges and payment services, including accounts tied to 16 registered sex offenders. Suspects were identified in 125 countries. Gavin Sather, senior program manager for anti-child sexual exploitation at Binance, said the operation highlights how "the inherent transparency of blockchain makes it difficult for criminals to hide for long while exploiting victims". From Leads to Prosecutions

The sprint was built on months of prior data enrichment and designed to convert existing crypto intelligence into coordinated action within a concentrated timeframe. Chainalysis said prosecutorial outcomes from Operation Lighthouse are expected to continue accruing through 2027.chainalysis

The operation comes as Chainalysis data has shown cryptocurrency flows to CSAM sites growing in recent years, prompting some operators to migrate toward privacy coins and mixing services to evade detection.
