Chainsaw Man movie tops Dragon Ball Super’s U.S. record

Sony and Crunchyroll's "Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc" has accomplished what seemed impossible just weeks ago, surpassing "Dragon Ball Super: Broly's" seven-year reign as a box office champion. The anime film reached $30.8 million domestically by its second weekend, narrowly eclipsing the Dragon Ball movie's lifetime U.S. gross of $30.7 million and claiming the sixth position among highest-grossing anime films in North America.cbr+1

Halloween Weekend Drop Couldn't Stop the Milestone

Despite earning $6 million during Halloween weekend with a 66.7% drop from its opening, the film's performance exceeded industry expectations for anime sequels. Box office analysts noted that this decline was significantly better than comparable releases, outperforming "Jujutsu Kaisen 0," which saw a 74.5% drop in its second weekend.cbr+3

The achievement came during what industry experts called one of the worst Halloween weekends in decades, with total domestic box office reaching only $49 million – the lowest of 2025. "Regretting You" and "Black Phone 2" battled for the top spot with approximately $8 million each, while Chainsaw Man held third place.timesofindia.indiatimes+2

Global Success Continues International Momentum

Internationally, the film has maintained strong performance with $139 million worldwide, including approximately $51.45 million in Japan. The movie added $8.4 million from international theaters during its second weekend, bringing its overseas total to $108.2 million.cbr+2

Industry analysts project the film will finish its U.S. theatrical run between $40-45 million, potentially challenging higher positions on the all-time anime list. The success represents another victory for Sony and Crunchyroll following "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle," which set records with a $70 million U.S. opening in September.twistedvoxel+3

The film has earned critical acclaim with an "A" CinemaScore from audiences and high praise on Rotten Tomatoes. "Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc" continues the popular anime series adaptation, featuring the highly anticipated debut of the character Reze, known as "Bomb Girl".fortressofsolitude+2
