bloombergappleinsidervr+1Apple is laying off employees across several product teams, including those responsible for the Siri digital assistant, the Vision Pro headset's immersive video content, and gaming, according to a report by Bloomberg on Friday. The cuts also extend to the company's Intelligent Systems Experience group, a team within Apple's software engineering organization that works on AI features for its devices.bloomberg
At least 60 employees have been let go from the Vision Products Group, the parent organization behind the Vision Pro headset, according to AppleInsider, which first reported layoffs in that division earlier this week. The outlet reported that incoming CEO John Ternus is putting the VR category "on hold," with Apple's focus shifting toward Siri AI capabilities and smart glasses rather than the mixed-reality headset.appleinsider
The Vision Pro has faced challenges since its launch. Apple sharply scaled back production of the device as early as 2024, and the company's spatial computing group lost its head, Vice President Paul Meade, to OpenAI's hardware unit earlier this year. Bloomberg reported that Apple is refocusing resources on new devices and artificial intelligence as part of the restructuring.reuters+2
While Apple has historically avoided the sweeping layoffs that have marked other tech giants in recent years, the company has made targeted reductions as its priorities evolve. In November 2025, Apple cut dozens of sales roles across its organization, and in August 2024, it eliminated about 100 positions in its digital services group.reuters+1
The latest round of cuts comes as Apple continues to invest heavily in AI. At WWDC in June, the company unveiled the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI across its platforms. The layoffs suggest Apple is trimming teams tied to products with uncertain futures while doubling down on artificial intelligence as its central strategic priority.apple
