The announcement came during the company's "Surprise and Shine" event on Wednesday, where Apple also unveiled its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, and the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The software rollout — spanning iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, and watchOS 27 — represents Apple's most expansive push into on-device AI capabilities for consumers.neowin+2
Apple Intelligence brings AI-powered tools across the operating system, including enhanced photo editing features like Spatial Reframing and an upgraded Clean Up tool, photorealistic imagery in Image Playground, smarter suggestions in Messages and Mail, and a new Notify Me feature in Safari that monitors web pages for changes such as price drops or restocks.mashable+1
The centerpiece is Siri AI, a rebuilt version of Siri that Apple describes as "profoundly more personal, capable, and conversational." Siri AI can draw on personal context across messages, emails, and photos, use onscreen awareness to take actions, and answer questions on a wide range of topics. It also debuts as a standalone app with synced conversation history across devices.apple
Siri AI will roll out in beta in English first, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support coming in October. Apple noted that Siri AI will not initially be available in the EU on iOS.apple
Apple Intelligence requires an A17 Pro chip or newer on iPhone and an M1 chip or later on iPad and Mac. That means it works on iPhone 15 Pro and later models, all iPhone 16 and 17 models, iPads with M1 or A17 Pro chips, and any Apple silicon Mac.macobserver+1
Notably, Apple cautioned that certain features relying on server-side models will be subject to daily usage limits, including Siri AI, intelligent photo editing tools, and Image Playground. The limits reflect a broader industry trend, as companies grapple with the costs of running AI at scale.neowin+1
To protect user privacy, Apple Intelligence uses a combination of on-device processing and what the company calls Private Cloud Compute, which extends iPhone-level privacy and security into the cloud. Apple Intelligence will support 16 languages at launch, including English, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.apple
