businessinsider+1businessinsiderfinance.yahooApple has become the second company in history to reach a $5 trillion market capitalization, a day after reclaiming its position as the world's most valuable company from Nvidia
The iPhone maker's stock rose on Monday, pushing its market cap to roughly $5 trillion, according to Business Insider. The move came as Nvidia shares fell nearly 5%, dropping its valuation to about $4.77 trillion and handing the top spot back to Apple. Nvidia became the first company to close above $5 trillion in October 2025, fueled by insatiable demand for its AI chips.finance.yahoo+3
Apple's ascent has been powered by a year of steady gains rather than any single catalyst. The stock is up nearly 24% in 2026, making it the top performer among the "Magnificent Seven" group of mega-cap technology companies. Three members of that cohort — Tesla , Microsoft , and Meta — are down for the year.finance.yahoo+1
Investors have increasingly rewarded Apple's restrained approach to AI capital expenditures at a time when rivals face scrutiny over massive spending plans. Monday's Nvidia selloff was triggered partly by a report that the chipmaker is in talks to provide $250 billion in financing for OpenAI's data centers, reviving concerns about circular dealmaking. A broader semiconductor rout has also dragged on AI hardware stocks, with the iShares Semiconductor ETF down 14% in the past month.businessinsider+1
Apple is also preparing a major expansion into the smart home market. The company has multiple new home devices in development expected later this year, including a 7-inch smart home hub with a built-in camera, a refreshed Apple TV, a new HomePod, and eventually its own indoor security cameras. The hub, delayed from earlier this year to around September 2026, will feature next-generation Siri powered by Apple Intelligence. At WWDC in June, Apple previewed software upgrades including 4K HomeKit Secure Video, AI-generated clip summaries, and natural language automation shortcuts.reddit+4
The smart home lineup would pit Apple directly against Amazon Amazon.com, Inc. and Alphabet's Google, both of which have long dominated the category with their Echo and Nest product families.
