bloomberg.com+1.apnews.com+1.sg.finance.yahoo.com+1.Anthropic warned in its long-awaited IPO prospectus, filed Monday, that disruptions at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. could hurt its business. Bloomberg said the warning puts the Claude maker on a growing list of tech companies that have pointed to the chipmaker's central role in artificial intelligence. Wall Street read the filing as a vote of confidence in AI spending, and semiconductor shares led a rebound in U.S. stocks.bloomberg.com
In its Form S-1, Anthropic said the concentration of advanced chip manufacturing in Taiwan, and at TSMC in particular, poses a risk to the company. It named several threats, including natural disasters, geopolitical tensions with China, power grid or infrastructure failures, and trade restrictions. "Accordingly, any restrictions or delays on the supply of advanced chips out of Taiwan or TSMC would adversely affect our business, financial condition, and results of operations," the filing said.cnbc.com
The warning shows how much leading AI developers depend on the chips TSMC makes for Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices . Companies that design their own AI chips, such as Amazon Amazon.com, Inc. and Google Alphabet Inc. , still need TSMC to manufacture them. The prospectus includes more than 90 pages of risk factors. Among them are non-cancelable compute commitments running to 2045, including a Broadcom lease of about $125 billion.axios.com+2
U.S. stocks rose Monday after Anthropic published the filing. Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron all jumped, while the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained. CNBC said last week's losing AI trades were bouncing back, with the Nasdaq up and chip stocks especially strong. Lower oil prices and falling bond yields also helped. Before the filing, TSMC's ADR had been little changed in pre-market trading. It closed Friday below its 50-day average after a sharp sell-off in chip stocks this month.cnbc.com+2
Anthropic plans to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol ANT. The filing shows $16.3 billion in revenue for the six months that ended in June, up from $4.6 billion for all of 2025. Over the same six months, Anthropic spent $9 billion on AI infrastructure. Its first-half net loss grew to $80.7 billion, mostly because the fair value of its convertible bonds rose. Axios said trading could begin before Thanksgiving. The Associated Press said the offering could be the largest IPO ever.apnews.com+4
