techcrunch.com+1.uk.finance.yahoo.com.techcrunch.com.Anthropic says it cannot get as much computing capacity as it wants from Amazon Web Services Amazon.com, Inc. , Google Alphabet Inc. and Microsoft . According to a draft S-1 filing obtained by The Wall Street Journal News Corp , those companies increasingly see the Claude maker as a competitor rather than a customer, TechCrunch reported on October 20. The disclosure points to a weak spot in Anthropic's plans ahead of a public offering it is reportedly targeting for November. The company's growth depends on infrastructure controlled by some of its biggest competitors in AI.techcrunch.com
To make up for the shortfall, Anthropic is leasing its own data centers and working with third-party operators. The filing warns that some of those operators have a "limited operating history" and could prove less reliable than the large cloud providers, according to TechCrunch. The company also listed political opposition to new data centers in the US, where most of its capacity sits, as a risk, Anadolu Agency reported, citing the Journal.u.aa.com.tr+1
The tension stands out because Anthropic is a major customer of all three companies. The draft lists about $450 billion in cloud agreements over the next seven to 10 years, most of which cannot be canceled. That total includes $111 billion with Google Cloud, $110 billion with AWS and $31 billion with Microsoft, Bloomberg reported. The draft also includes up to $86 billion for Nvidia chip capacity from Nscale and Lambda, plus more than $160 billion to lease Google chips through Broadcom . Those deals bring total commitments above $600 billion, investingLive reported. Deals still under negotiation could push the figure as high as $750 billion.uk.finance.yahoo.com+1
The draft also gives a detailed look at Anthropic's finances. The company reported $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, up from about $1.1 billion a year earlier. It also posted a net loss of $80.7 billion over the same period, mostly from accounting charges, according to investingLive. Spending on computing capacity and infrastructure reached nearly $9 billion in the first half, compared with $2.3 billion a year earlier and $7.3 billion for all of 2025, Bloomberg reported.investinglive.com+1
Two customers accounted for about a fifth of first-half sales, TechCrunch noted. The filing also warns that Anthropic could be held liable for damage caused by harmful AI behavior, possibly in amounts beyond its insurance coverage.techcrunch.com
The leaked draft adds detail to figures Reuters Thomson Reuters Corporation and the Financial Times reported in late September. Last week, Anthropic told prospective investors that third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion, up 45% from the previous quarter, TechCrunch reported. Anthropic is expected to file its IPO documents publicly in the coming weeks, according to Anadolu Agency. The company declined to comment to the Journal.u.aa.com.tr+1
