deepmind.google.deepmind.google.economictimes.indiatimes.com.Google DeepMind on Tuesday, October 27, announced Genie 4, the next version of its AI world model. It generates interactive virtual environments in real time that are more realistic than before, and it now produces its own sound. The company described it as its "new world model, which unlocks unprecedented realism and improves real-time interactive simulation," with music, ambient noise and dialogue generated alongside the visuals. The release builds on a technology that has already shaken investors in video game companies, according to Bloomberg.deepmind.google+1
Users create explorable worlds from text prompts and move through them with keyboard controls. While a scene plays out, they can type instructions such as changing the weather or adding a character. The model draws on Google's Gemini family. Gemini Omni ties simulations to how things look and behave in the real world, and Gemini 3.8 Flash runs as a "guiding agent in the loop." It watches each scene, splits goals into steps and checks incoming frames to keep the world consistent. Genie 4 can produce experiences about two minutes long, up from one minute with Genie 3, The Verge reported.bloomberg.com+2
DeepMind says Genie 4 is its first real-time world model that generates audio natively, including dialogue that changes on the fly. The company also acknowledged limits: visual details and object permanence can "shift or drift over time," especially in longer sessions.deepmind.google
For now, Genie 4 is a research preview for trusted testers. Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and early-access partners on the Gemini API and Google AI Studio will get it later, and a waitlist is open. All generated video and audio will carry SynthID watermarks. Google is promoting the model for film pre-visualization, game prototyping and robot training scenarios.theverge.com+1
Investors have reacted to earlier Genie releases. When Alphabet launched Project Genie in January, shares of Take-Two Interactive and Roblox fell about 9% each in afternoon trading, and Unity Software dropped 19%. Investors worried the tools could upend traditional game development, according to Reuters Thomson Reuters Corporation reporting carried by The Economic Times. More recently, on October 7, Google and Unity announced a partnership on an AI platform that lets people build games from text prompts. Unity shares rose on the news while Roblox shares fell.economictimes.indiatimes.com+1
DeepMind itself calls Genie 4 "an early, experimental model." It frames the work mainly as a step toward AGI and toward building training environments for robots and AI agents.deepmind.google
