Chinese stocks surge as Beijing’s $9B intervention stabilizes markets

Beijing mounted one of its broadest market interventions in more than a year after a punishing selloff in artificial intelligence and semiconductor shares, marshaling state-owned enterprises, insurers, and regulators in a coordinated push to restore confidence in Chinese equities.

State Firms Inject Billions

Two centrally administered state investment firms led the effort. China Reform Holdings Corp said entities under its investment arm deployed more than 50 billion yuan ($7.38 billion) through special relending facilities and matching funds for share buybacks and stake increases, according to Reuters ↗ 5.62%. On Monday, five major state-backed insurers — China Life Insurance, PICC People's Insurance Company (Group) of China Limited, China Pacific Insurance, Ping An Insurance, and New China Life — pledged to deploy long-term capital into equities, according to Caixin. Markets Rebound on Tuesday

The intervention appeared to gain traction on Tuesday. The Shenzhen Component Index surged 4.81%, while the Shanghai Composite climbed 1.79%. The STAR 50 Index rallied 11% and the ChiNext 50 gained more than 7%, according to the South China Morning Post.
