lseglseg+1capco+1The London Stock Exchange announced on Tuesday plans to launch LSE 24, a new overnight trading venue designed to operate around the clock on weekdays, as traditional exchanges race to keep pace with crypto markets and evolving investor expectations.
The venue will run from 5 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. London time, with a 30-minute pause between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. for end-of-day processing, operating separately from the LSE's main market, which will retain its standard hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Client testing is expected by the end of 2026, with exchange-traded products launching as the first asset class in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval.lseg+1
At launch, the platform will offer ETPs such as funds tracking UK and US stock markets, with the exchange ultimately aiming to extend trading to more than 2,600 exchange-traded products listed on the LSE. The venue intends to expand into individual equities as a next step.theblock+2
Julia Hoggett, CEO of LSE plc, said in the company's official announcement: "The launch of LSE 24 marks an important step in the evolution of our markets, providing clients with greater flexibility beyond traditional trading hours and supporting more digital, connected global markets."lseg
The move positions the LSE alongside US exchanges pursuing similar expansions. The New York Stock Exchange has targeted a launch of 22-hour trading on NYSE Arca in late 2026, while Nasdaq has aimed for 24/5 capability in the second half of 2026. The LSE framed its venue as supporting "the next generation of digital, algorithmic and agentic trading," with native connectivity for AI-enabled and agent-based trading systems.capco+1
Beyond extended hours, LSE 24 will leverage LSEG's London Stock Exchange Group plc Digital Securities Depository, currently under development, to enable digitized issuance, settlement, and asset servicing. The exchange described the combination of extended-hours access and agentic connectivity as designed to support trading that is "more digital, automated and globally connected."lseg
The announcement, first reported by the Financial Times Pearson plc on Tuesday, reflects a broader industry acknowledgment that always-on trading — long a distinguishing feature of cryptocurrency markets — has reshaped retail investor expectations worldwide.investing+1
