theverge.com+1.polygon.com+1.gamesradar.com+1.More than eight years after first announcing it, Bethesda has given the next Elder Scrolls game a name. On November 3, studio chief Todd Howard confirmed that the sequel to Skyrim is called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. He made the reveal in a video of less than 10 minutes marking 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios, The Verge reported. The studio also showed a logo, but it did not share a release date, platforms or gameplay.theverge.com
In the video, Howard called the anniversary the "perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called," according to GamesRadar+. Bethesda shared nothing beyond the name and teaser, The Verge noted.gamesradar.com+1
The short teaser shows an Elder Scroll rising out of desert sand, Game Rant reported. After the logo appears, a quote reads: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate." Polygon reported that the line is credited to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, and dated 4E 206, which would set the game five years after Skyrim.gamerant.com+1
In the series, Sentinel is a city on Hammerfell's northwest coast, next to the Iliac Bay. The province lies west of Cyrodiil, where Oblivion took place, and southwest of Skyrim, IGN explained. Game Rant described the city as the largest in Hammerfell, home mostly to Redguards and close to the Alik'r Desert. The Verge's Tom Warren wrote that the game will center on the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, the ancient artifacts the series is named after.ign.com
The name had leaked ahead of time. Warren reported the week before that Bethesda planned to reveal it in November, close to Skyrim's 15th anniversary. IGN added that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had hinted at the subtitle in an earlier post by replacing it with eight asterisks, one for each letter of "Sentinel."
Bethesda first teased the game at E3 2018. Howard recently told GamesRadar+ that it is still "a while" away. IGN expects at least a couple more years of waiting and suggested a fuller reveal could come at the Xbox Showcase in June 2027. IGN also raised the question of whether Sentinel will come to PlayStation, since Sharma has put new focus on console exclusives at Microsoft . For now, Kotaku summed up the day this way: "if you were expecting a release date, well… bad news," the outlet wrote.kotaku.com
