  • Forskare vid LLNL har funnit att diamant smälter vid cirka 7 300 Kelvin under ett tryck på en terapascal, vilket stämmer överens med kvantsimuleringar och löser en långvarig diskrepans, enligt en studie publicerad i torsdags i Nature Physics.
  • Genom att tillämpa resultaten vid National Ignition Facility kan man tredubbla fusionsenergiutbytet genom att använda långsammare initiala stötvågor som håller bränslet mer komprimerbart, säger forskarna.
  • Resultaten förfinar även modeller av "diamantregn" inuti Neptunus och Uranus, där man tror att kol kristalliserar djupt inne i planeternas inre.
